Deputy foreign minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) voiced the African state's willingness to open embassy in Tehran to start high-level diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic.

Deputy foreign minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) voiced the African state's willingness to open embassy in Tehran to start high-level diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic. 

The demand was raised by the Congolese diplomat in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting here in Tehran on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Abdollahian stressed the necessity for the expansion of mutual cooperation, specially in the agriculture, mining and health sectors.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's administration has striven hard to maximize relations with the African continent.

Iran is also an observing member of the AU and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.

The country is considered as one of the AU's strategic partners along with India, Japan, China, several South American states and Turkey, while Tehran is also believed to be prioritizing promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states.
